Final Major Project
June update 3

The website was the last thing I have been working on for this project as I had designed the structure and rough template about 4 weeks ago but until I had high res images of the sneaker I could not complete the website demo. I found it interesting that my website design change dramatically in the last week and I found I had kept very little from my original design that I had done in late April. I really wanted a minimalist design that would really show off the product to the customer/client. I also tried to keep drop down menus and text to a minimum as these really detach the customer from what they are designing if all they do is pick a colour and it automatically changes for them. If the customer has to drag the colour on themselves it feels a bit more personal and calculated. I don't fell 100% happy with my website demo as there area few glitches and bugs that I didn't have time to iron out but that can easily be done before the show.

The photo shoot went to plan and I got the shots that I need for the website demo and potential adverts. I didn't go for anything to complicated as I wanted the product to be shot with a really simple white background and spot light on the product. This gave me high resolution pictures that I could then manipulate in photoshop.

The sample sneakers are now 100% complete and are ready for the final photo shoot. The packaging graphics have now been printed and applied to the aluminum case which has now had a coat of matt white paint.

Nearly there!
The logo has now been added and are in their display box. There are a few extras that will be added to the pack before these are shot in the studio on Monday. This project is about ultimate luxury and freshness which is why they are housed in a rugged aluminum flight case!

The sneakers are 99% complete now and only need a couple of little touch ups to the paint.

May Update 1

This is the final design for sneaker that I am going to create for the purpose of this project. The aim is to demonstrate the design facility from start to finish that would be available to the customer using the website in order to create their perfect sneaker.
I deliberately chose quite a complex design that will require a number of different features to be used in its creation on the website.

April update 3

This is a short tester for how I want my trainer/s to look on the website that enables the creator to view his or her trainer in 360 degrees to give a clear representation of how the design is taking shape.

April update 2

I spent an afternoon this week in one of the photography studios to try and get some sense of how I want to apply the medical/surgical theme to my project outcomes as these are now my main goals for next month as I now have the concept and style sorted.

Here are some of the test shots from the shoot.

April update 1

I know it has been a good month since I last posted any new stuff on this blog, but trust me a lot of things have happened and I'm going to show you!

The first major step forward in this project has been the visualization of the concept that I have had brewing in my head for a good two months. Getting it out of my head and into a sensible clear concise manner was my main goal over the easter break. On the second day back of the final term myself and 7 others were going to be presenting our projects to the rest of level 3 in the form of a data projected sideshow to test our communication skills and give a good insight to our f.m.p and what stage we were at.

Here are the slides from my presentation.

//////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////

The core concept for this project is to take sneaker customization further to a more bespoke audience that really know their KEGLER SUPER's from their FOREST HILLS. The intention is to engage and put the spark back into sneaker design as the market is currently swamped with lazy and thoughtless sneaker designs, ranging from re-producing the exact designs and colour-ways from the 70's and 80's to the uber-commercial formula of 'successful/cool company logo (example Heineken beer) + popular existing shoe model (Nike Dunk SB) + limited runs (500-1000) = instant sell out.'

Adi/splice is the name of my project and my concept is about taking features from popular models of footwear and splicing them together to create a new breed of shoe based on features of existing sneakers. The design therefore would be totally in the customers hand as to what parts they want to include or exclude, as the concept is not just about adding to but also taking away if that is what the customer wants to do. For example removing the 3 stripes on the side of pair of Adidas Gazelle in order to reduce bulkiness and create and cleaner more minimalistic style would also be possible.
